Hi, I'm Megan! [CareerDork]
I'm a corporate and higher education career coach who has been working in career development since 2011.
I have my master's degree in Career Counseling, and my work and life mission is to help remind people how beautiful and important their dreams are. Most people struggle with the destructive idea that something's wrong with them because they haven't "figured out" their career. We spend so much of our lives at work, and I'm passionate about helping you not only use effective strategies in your job search, but rethink how you relate to work. I began CareerDork in 2020 to help others outside higher education access quality career coaching and information to reach their goals.

WHY DO I COACH?
I come alive when I see people succeed in their careers and their whole lives are changed for the better. I live for the "I got the job!!" email or text from my clients. We spend SO much of our lives at work, so it's critical that we reflect and pursue jobs and careers that meet our needs. But most people aren't taught HOW to do this, and many people feel stuck, overwhelmed, and discouraged as a result.
Is this type of career work easy? No. Everyone's career journey and values are different, but I strongly believe that everyone is deserving of dignified work that supports their life. I think you're awesome - your career should be, too!
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
I have my Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Career Counseling from California State University, Sacramento and have presented at the National Career Development Association (NCDA). I've worked as a professional career counselor and coach for 5 different career teams in corporate and higher education settings. I've completed many professional trainings related to career development, recruiting, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). I have a bachelor of arts in Sociology from Scripps College.
MY VALUES
The things I value the most are empathy, connection, inclusion, and courage. If I'm not learning, then I don't feel like I'm living. I constantly want to learn and practice being a better ally to marginalized people and communities. My journey to learn how to give more compassion and kindness to myself has only deepened my desire to see others do the same. There is room for all of us at the table, and I strive as best I can to live from a growth and abundance mindset.
MY (SHORT) STORY
I was born and raised in Northern California and moved to Southern California to attend a small women's liberal arts college. There, my eyes were opened to how powerful women could be in their careers when they had the right support, mindset, and strategies. Working in the career center for 3 years was the foundation of what I do today.
Post-college, I worked in market research in the beautiful beachside city of Ventura. While I liked solving problems with data, I missed being able to help people directly and pursued my master's degree in Career Counseling. After graduation, I walked the Camino de Santiago in Spain and then moved to Denver, Colorado where I worked at the University of Denver and 2U, Inc.
OUTSIDE OF WORK
When I'm not obsessing over resumes, my free time is spent reading, nurturing my *many* houseplants, getting together with my girlfriends for happy hour, or hiking and backpacking with my husband in the beautiful Colorado mountains. I don't currently have any pets, but I have plenty of future names at the ready for my eventual fur-friend(s)!
My heroes and inspirations: Brené Brown, Elizabeth Gilbert, Michelle Obama, Chanel Miller, Emilie Wapnick, Dawn Graham, Chase Jarvis, Glennon Doyle, Amber Rae, Marie Forleo, Danielle LaPorte, Gay Hendricks... too many to name!
